APRIL 2007

Welcome to our first update in over a year! Time is flyin... music is crankin... full speed ahead for even better days!

2006 was great for the Jazz-Rock scene... a continued upswing in phenomenal album releases and live touring.

Unfortunately, this past January marked a tragic loss to the Jazz-Rock community with the passing of Michael Brecker and bassist, Steve Logan. These were two truly bright stars in the international music scene and they will be greatly missed. Adam played with Michael Brecker in the Steps Ahead band and with Steve Logan in Mona Lisa Overdrive.

As you can see from the homepage, this new issue features 3 new albums. The great Israeli drummer, Asaf Sirkis, is about to release his latest "gothic jazz" CD, "The Song Within" on May 22nd. Adam has been touring with the amazing Mahavishnu Project and their recent release, "Return to the Emerald Beyond," is a 2 hour live masterpiece that truly captures the great spirit of the original Mahavishnu band. Finally, John's improvisational band, VyZ, just released Tornado on March 23rd which is their first commercial CD after producing 3 innovative "music for movies" DVD's over the past 4 years.

We hope you will enjoy our NEWS page which is chock full of jazz-rock videos from YouTube... a veritable short history of Jazz-Rock from Bitches Brew to today.

So it looks like 2007 is going to be another huge year for new music and we hope you all will get out and support your favorite musicians and buy their CDs and DVDs to keep the jazz-rock spirit alive and well. We continue to endorse our jazz-rock friends at
Abstract Logix, Audiophile Imports, and Rick Calics' Jazz Rock World. Rick has a cool article he wrote on the past 4 Decades of Jazz Rock Fusion.

Thanks so much for your emails over the past year... bolsters our optimism to hear from such postive people in this politically deceptive age of fear... keep the good news comin!

Best to you all,

The Editors

JANUARY 2006

We finally updated the site! 2005 was busy as hell and 2006 is turning into a killer year too... and we are just beginning!

We have had to put our Jazz-Rock movie on hold due to other projects taking priority. "Artists of Imagination - Musicians Who Innovate," will hope to be back in production this spring... we will keep you posted.

Big news is that Adam got his latest album, "JazzRocketScience," released in October on the excellent German label, Nagel Hayer... visit adamholzman.com for more info.

Big News for John is that his latest movie, "Star Cycles - the Timeless Wisdom of Pythagoras," is out on DVD and available at Amazon.com. The DVD Soundtrack of Star Cycles is also available which features music visuals created using G-FORCE by Soundspectrum, Inc.... visit starcyclesmovie.com for more info.

In regard to this issue, we are featuring an artist tribute to the great mini-moogster, Jan Hammer and some cool cartoonage from Adam on our new jazz-rock comics page. We are also sharing exclusive Jack Dejohnette footage from our interview with him at his studio last spring.

Please don't forget to check out Adam's "Why Jazz-Rock?" on our "NEWS" page with a "Call to Action". Let us know if you have anything cookin in the jazz-rock vein and we will get it up for the world to see... thanks for all your support and emails... keep em comin!

All the best for success in 2006!

Adam and John

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY in 2005!

Greetings and welcome to our fourth issue in June 2005 as we celebrate our first year of jazz-rock features, interviews, and our "up and coming artists" section!

Hard to believe how fast time is flying, but we are stoked to see the entire jazz-rock industry finally picking up steam...it is truly amazing how much great new music has been produced over the past year...and we all owe a huge thanks to the great success of online sites like Abstract Logic and Audiophile Imports who deliver the actual goods into our hands.

So, what's new at Jazz-Rock.com?

We have just begun working on our Jazz-Rock movie "Artists of Imagination - Musicians Who Innovate." One of the great hilights of the production so far was John filmming Jack Dejohnette at his studio. Jack is the first of 12 great musicians who will be part of the film.

On the keyboard front, we are proud to celebrate the release of Joe Zawinul's latest effort, "Vienna Nights," which is a phenomenal double live CD. We had fun putting Joe's feature together as it provides a broad overview of everything that is Zawinul, with a particular leaning toward the future...he ain't gettin older, he's gettin better! And now that he has his own Austrian "Birdland" club and national stamp (issued in his honor as Austria's greatest musician), we can see that Joe has more than fullfilled his musical dreams in this lifetime...the good news is there is much more to come from this improvisational genius of jazz-rock/world music.

The real surprise this past month was hearing bassist David Hines' new CD, "Nebula," ...wow! ...holy shit!...out of the blue fusion at its very finest which is why we are featuring him as this issues' "Up and Coming Artist." This is David's first solo album and features Allan Holdsworth on a couple tracks with keyboard master, Steve Hunt producing the album. What a great debut! Highly recommended.

Last, but not least, is our Jazz-Rock News page where you can check out all the latest hububb and happenings going on in jazz-rock present and future.

Ok, that about does it... and now that the summer is almost upon us we wish everyone some well-deserved R & R.

Thanks for all your kind email and support... keep it comin! ...and, check it out, we still remain commercial free!!! ...but not for long... sponsors are knockin.

Peace it together,

Adam & John

Welcome to Jazz-Rock.com's WINTER EDITION 2004-2005!

This is officially our third round of jazz-rock dribble bru-ha-ha since we started the site last spring. As any labor of love, there have been professional priorities (like gigs for real cash) that have slowed down our editorial process since the summer.

Needless to say, after a very busy fall, we are grateful to have put this edition together and highly enthusiastic about our latest offerings of featured artists, interviews, and news updates on the jazz-rock related scene.

With peace and joy we certainly hope you enjoy the fruits of our labors and have a great 2005!

Adam & John

Hello and welcome to Jazz-Rock.com's SUMMER 2004!

We want to thank all the wonderful people who have written to us about our new site these past three months. We do this as a total labor of joy and are so glad to hear from all of you who deeply care about great, innovative musicianship. In particular we want to thank our recent round of featured artists who helped us craft the current website you see before you: Jane Getter, Gary Husband, and Steve Topping.

As we get into the Summer of 2004, there are so many signs of jazz-rock thriving...and fusing again and again into many new inventive forms that defy labels... like the DNA of life itself, Jazz-Rock continues to evolve and will not die! As we say here at Jazz-Rock.com, it is all about ARTISTS OF IMAGINATION!

While Europe and Japan remain the hot spots for touring, all you have to do is visit the great
Abstract Logix website and see it full of new artists from around the world every week! And of course, here in the US, our favorite New York City hotspot, the 55 Bar in the Village, continues to be one of the most inspiring places on the planet to hear fresh, new talent...not to mention that it is the unofficial Thursday night home of the category defying master, Wayne Krantz!

While we mourn the May 18th passing of drumming legend, Elvin Jones, we celebrate the fact that his improvisational spirit lives on with so many talented artists. Elvin played a huge role in Jazz-Rock history as he uninhibitedly took the tiger by the tail every night and gave aspiring Jazz-Rock drummers a REAL education. Elvin was a true rhythmic ARTIST OF IMAGINATION who will live in our hearts forever.

Well, that about does it for now. Please email us, inform us, and send us links to hot, tasty, crazy, passionately, insanely great music. There is much, much more to come!

All will be revealed to those who seek it...

ORIGINAL NOTE FROM OUR ONLINE DEBUT...

We might not look like much now but we will soon be many things: a crossroads for creative musicians, a meeting place for fusioneers 'in-the-know', a destination for Striving Young jazz-rockers, a Virtual Paris Cafe for the jazz-rock elite, the center of the jazz-rock Universe! All these things we will be!

And that's only the first stage; before long we will invade your psyche and work our way deep into your subconscious. Your senses will be heightened, your reflexes quickened, your mind as nimble as a jazz-rocket scientist on a quadruple espresso. That is the Nature of the True Jazz-Rocker! Soon your daily activities will only consist of blasting loud music and drinking high-octane nerve gas. And constantly logging on to Jazz-Rock.com!

What have we got in store for you? More interviews, of course, but also savvy jazz-rock journalism and provocative commentary. Want to get a headache? Just check out our "Fun Links" over in the left column! Plus there will be other surprises, as soon as we can think of them!

All will be revealed in the Fullness of Time...
